“It is a very interesting thing to me, that as humans, we are always trying to “one up” one another. When someone talks about themselves or their lives, it always seems as if else interrupts their speech with a comment or story speaking about how their life was so much worse, or about how their car is so much cooler, or how their tuition costs so more this semester. Often I find myself wanting to tell these people to just stfu because no one really cares, but I do not. Something inside holds me back. Something inside makes me want to listen to what they have to say, no matter how lame it is. This might just be because I myself can do this at times, but it might also be because I just love people, and if they find security in “one upping” that is fine by me. A word of wisdom to some, might be to stop trying to “one up” others. Seeing as how there are 6 Billion human beings on our planet, I am sure someone has you beat, big time. To the others that hate these folk, just listen, because if you do not this person may become severely depressed. This person’s only security may be in the idea that their life just happens to be more “terrible” or so much more “awesome” than every single person around them. I hope you can relate to this, we all do it sometimes, some just more than others. Whether you “one up” or say “stfu” you are probably still an asshole anyways.”
